If you've ever wanted to work with clay and create your own pottery, this seven-week class is the perfect place to start. Whether you're completely new to pottery or have some experience, this course will introduce you to the essential techniques of both wheel throwing and handbuilding, with a focus on developing a strong foundation in pottery.

    What You’ll Learn:

    • Introduction to the Pottery Wheel
Get hands-on with the basics of wheel throwing, from centering the clay to shaping your first bowls, mugs, and small vases. You'll practice key wheel techniques, including centering, pulling, trimming, and refining your pieces.

    • Handbuilding Techniques
Learn the versatility of handbuilding with clay through several methods:

      • Pinch Pots: Create small, personal pieces by pinching and shaping the clay by hand.

      • Coil Building: Build up your pieces with coils of clay, ideal for creating larger and more sculptural forms.

      • Slab Building: Use flat slabs of clay to create functional items such as plates, trays, and boxes.

      • Molds: Explore how to create forms using molds, allowing for both uniformity and creative exploration in your pieces.

    • Surface Decoration & Texture
Discover the endless possibilities for decorating your pottery. You’ll learn techniques such as carving, stamping, and adding texture to the surface of your pieces to make them uniquely yours.

    • Glazing Techniques
Once your pieces are fired and ready, we’ll teach you the basics of glazing, including how to apply glazes, explore layering, and experiment with color. You’ll gain an understanding of how to finish your work with beautiful, professional-looking results.

    What’s Included:

    • All materials (clay, tools, and glazes)

    • Studio time to work on your projects, with full access to wheels and handbuilding tools

    • Step-by-step instruction and individual feedback from an experienced instructor

    • Firing and glazing of up to 10 pieces (we’ll handle the kiln firing)

By the end of the course, you’ll have several finished pieces to take home, including both wheel-thrown and handbuilt pottery, and a solid understanding of essential pottery techniques.
